WELCOME TO PRISON PRAISE!!!

Potter’s Heart Ministry wishes to recognize the gifted men and women of God behind bars who have written psalms and spiritual songs while incarcerated.  Chaplain Potter has personally witnessed the power these God-given songs have to bring others to salvation, deliverance, and healing during her ministry at Moss Justice Detention Center in York County, S.C.

It is our honor and pleasure to share with you, our visitor, these powerful lyrics with the permission of the songwriter.  Due to the nature of incarceration, we are unable to provide you with the full effect of these extraordinary works because recording music is prohibited. We trust the lyrics themselves will be a blessing to you, and give you the opportunity to celebrate with us the incredible songwriting talent God has chosen to unearth through Jesus’ body behind bars…

 I’m Free
Songwriter: Suyatta Johnson
York County Detention Center

Chorus:  I’m free, yes I’m free.
The devil no longer has a hold of me.
My mind is at peace.  I refuse to be
held in cap-ti-vi-ty.
Cause like Israel, I’m free, I’m free, I’m free.
Yes, I’m free.

Verse 1: (singing)
Never thought that I could make it/let alone take it/
cause I’ve been down for so long/didn’t think that I would shake it/
But the LORD was always with me and when I couldn’t walk He carried me/
I don’t know where I’d be if it wasn’t for His mercies/And He died for my iniquities/
And I thank God that I’m finally free…(I’m free 5x)

Chorus

Verse 2 (rap)  You see the Spirit of Life in Jesus Christ has made me free/
Didn’t have think twice when it came to my life I thought spiritually
cause it’s a war going on between the spirit and the flesh
every day you’re being put to the test constantly.
Had to stop thinking worldly and started thinking eternally
cause in my mind I serve G-O-D/physically, mentally, emotionally.
He’s the only one who can deliver me from this sinful body
and I thank God every day that I’m free (repeat 5 times) I’m Free.

Chorus

But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them. Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone’s chains were loosed.
Acts16:25
And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord.
Ephesians 5:18-19
